Virginia Martinez of Abilene, TX, was selected to play in the Hardin-Simmons University Orchestra for the 2010-1011 school year. Martinez is a seasoned violinist chosen from a large field of students who auditioned for the coveted spot.

Presenting four to six free concerts on campus per year, the orchestra also collaborates with other HSU ensembles and performing groups in Abilene. This season, the HSU Orchestra has the unique opportunity to play with the classic rock band Kansas during its university concert tour to help raise money for scholarships in the HSU School of Music. The Kansas concert will be September 25, 2010 in Behrens Auditorium on the Hardin-Simmons University campus.

Orchestra members provide instruction and coaching to students in middle schools and high schools in the Abilene area. Musicians also provide instruction to students who attend the Abilene Summer Music Festival camp.
