Krista Sharpe Performs in Rat Pack Tribute Concert at HSU

2012 Apr 16

Krista Sharpe of Canyon Lake, Texas, performed I'm Gonna Live Till I Die and Theme from New York, New York as part of a Rat Pack Tribute Concert Held at Hardin-Simmons University.

HSU professor of voice, Dr. Lynnette Chambers, says when she planned the student recital filled with classic tunes from greats like Cole Porter and Al Jolson, and songs like "Come Fly with Me" and "I Get a Kick Out of You," she was really putting together a tribute to her grandfather.

Last spring, Chambers' voice students performed classic Disney tunes in costume. She said then she was inspired by her four-year-old daughter, Julia. Chambers wanted to put together something her daughter would love. "Once again, the concert was inspired by one of my family members," says Chambers. "I am dedicating the recital to my grandfather, who just turned 94, and introduced me to this type of music and the people who made the music famous."

The free concert was a Rat Pack tribute with 12 songs performed by voice students and include selections once sung by Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., and Dean Martin.
