David Pate Helps Write Bible Lessons for National Publication

2011 Mar 10

The first in a series of Bible lessons written by Hardin-Simmons University's Logsdon Seminary students was published in the Baptist Standard online this week. The lessons are published both on the website and on the digital edition, Baptist Standard E3.

One of the students writting lessons is David Pate, of May, TX. Pate is earning a Master of Arts in Family Ministry degree.

HSU Professor of Church Ministry Dr. Ronnie Prevost says students in the class, Instructional Theory and Practice in the Church, learn how to successfully guide church members to teach Sunday school classes.

"Part of the essential curriculum of the class is for students to learn to write for publications," says Prevost, "That's why this opportunity to write for the Baptist Standard is such a good exercise for our students."

Prevost says, "You can read the lessons in the "Bible Studies for Life" series published each week in the Baptist Standard online. Each student choses a month and writes the four or five lessons required for that month. The Baptist Standard provides the topics for each month and students chose the month."

"Editor Marv Knox and Staff Writer George Henson of the Baptist Standard have allowed us to do this several times in the past," says Prevost. "This is such a great opportunity for our students and certainly great exposure for Logsdon Seminary and Hardin-Simmons."

The Logsdon Seminary students' Bible lessons will run for six months from March through August 2011.

For the 19th year, HSU guarantees students a tuition rate that does not increase as long as they maintain full-time enrollment in consecutive fall and spring semesters.

HSU provides an academically challenging undergraduate education based on a liberal arts foundation. Combining a commitment to academic excellence with a concern for the development of the total person, Hardin-Simmons provides An Education Enlightened by Faith.

With its 14:1 student-to-faculty ratio, students enjoy personal attention as they pursue over 70 fields of undergraduate study, 20 fields of graduate study, and seven pre-professional programs.
