Camille Skye Performs in Opera Workshop at Hardin-Simmons University

2011 Apr 27

Camille Skye, of Abilene, TX, played Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi during the opera workshop earlier this month on the Hardin-Simmons University campus.

The workshop was directed by Dr. Chris Hollingsworth, director of opera and assistant professor of voice at HSU. The Telephone is a lighthearted performance of a marriage proposal that almost doesn't happen because of a telephone. In the end, the proposal takes place, on what else, the telephone.

Gianni Schicchi is the story of Buoso Donati whose "grieving" relatives gather round to mourn his passing, but more particularly, to learn the contents of his will. Rumor has it that Buoso has left everything to a monastery, which precipitates a frantic search for the document.

In November, the School of Music produced a collaborative production of the opera Orfeo ed Euridice involving the HSU Orchestra, Chorale, Concert Choir, and the theater department.

Hardin-Simmons University provides an academically challenging undergraduate education based on a liberal arts foundation. Combining a commitment to academic excellence with a concern for the development of the total person, Hardin-Simmons provides An Education Enlightened by Faith.

HSU awards about $12 million in scholarships each year, and has a student to faculty ratio of 13:1.
