Anthony Ooi Awarded Scholarship from Hardin-Simmons University

Anthony Ooi of Abilene, Texas, was awarded the Pearson Scholarship for significant academic achievement by the Hardin-Simmons Department of Psychology at the annual psychology honors banquet, April 18, 2013.

The Stone Scholarship is available to a Junior or Senior Psychology major who is committed to the field of counseling as a career and will graduate in December 2013 or after.

The Johnson Scholarship is available to a senior Psychology major graduating in December 2013 or May 2014.

The Duck Scholarship is available to a Junior or Senior Psychology major with the intent of pursuing a degree in family therapy or counseling and will graduate in December 2013 or after.

The Pearson Scholarship is given to an outstanding psychology major freshman student and is chosen by the faculty based on grade point average.

The HSU psychology program provides students with a strong foundation in the principles of understanding human behavior and motivation; teaching students to integrate biological dimensions, interpersonal/social contexts, and psychological perspectives.

A major or minor in psychology helps students combine human behavioral knowledge with studies from other disciplines such as business, communications, criminal justice, philosophy, sociology, and religion.

The Department of Psychology also offers a Master's degree in Family Psychology which prepares students for licensure and practice as a therapist in a variety of settings.

As a service to the community, HSU also offers affordable counseling by graduate interns at the Family Psychology Center.
